Join Us for the 10th Annual Little Cities Tour de Forest Benefit Bicycle Ride on Saturday morning, May 2, 2015 beginning and ending at Stuart’s Opera House on Nelsonville’s Historic Public Square. Various routes take riders through the forested hills of southeastern Ohio on both level and challenging courses. This a non-competitive ride that raises funds for the Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council which is committed to gathering, protecting and sharing the heritage, cultural and environmental assets of this boom-to-bust coal mining region that is now home to the Wayne National Forest, and the Little Cities of the Forest Collaborative which promotes environmental restoration, education and recreation in the same region.
We are adding a gravel route this year and a family package rate for rides on the Adena Hock-Hocking Bikeway. In addition free activities for children on the Public Square will be provided by the Wayne National Forest and Rural Action’s Ohio Stream Restore Corp from 9am-2pm.
Registration is $30 for adults, who can choose from four roadway routes (including three challenging road routes and “set your own distance” rides on the nearby Adena Hock-Hocking Byway) and our first ever 54-mile gravel route. We also have a 100-mile route mapped, but that is available to only experienced riders who leave at 7am. Please contact Bob Eichenberg via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 740-591-2711 in advance if you are interested in this route. Also, see below for our Family Package rates for groups of adults and children.
Registration provides a free pre-ride homemade granola bar from Fullbrooks Cafe in Nelsonville, and either a waterproof Southeast Ohio Bicycle map or a souvenir Tour de Forest bandana and a hearty lunch served upon return between 11:30am and 3pm. Departure times begin at 7am and run until 10am from Public Square in Nelsonville. Departure times should be calculated to insure return in time for lunch no later than 3pm. We prefer that riders leave on the hour, so that partnering is possible.
The family package is available at $45 and must include children with up to 2 adults in the mix of the riders (limit 5 lunches and 2 souvenirs). Family package rides are on the Adena Hock-Hocking Bikeway. Departure time for family groups is recommended between 10:30 and 11am.
Downloadable registration/waiver of liability forms, on-line credit card registration for individuals and on-line credit card registration for the family package are now available. Please note that helmets are required on this ride.
We thank Bob Eichenberg, Sam Miller, Matt Castells, Merdith Erlewine, Peter Kotses, John Winnenberg and Jerry Iles for serving on the ride’s organizing committee. The event enjoys support from:
